Save the Date - Saturday 9th June - Crochet Retreat

We are launching something new and wonderful to our crochet repertoire

 Crochet Retreat Saturdays

The very first one will be on Saturday 9th June, 10am - 4pm

So save this date and book your place.

Our crochet classes are really popular and it is fantastic teaching everyone all the stitches and patterns, our crochet sistas monthly social is also hugely popular and we have fun trying out new things in a more relaxed informal setting.

What I have found though is that our time is always limited and we don't have the time to finish a project in one session.

So we are scheduling a series of retreat days, which I am thinking will be a 'mash up' of our classes and our crochet social, a kind of extended crochet sistas but with lots of new techniques and learning.

We will crochet something beautiful and aim to finish it in the one day. That way you will have our crochet expert (me) on hand to help you from beginning to end

On our very first one we will be making edgings for pillowcases, hand towels and tea towels. Here is the sort of thing I am thinking of

I am just working up the designs at the moment, and trying out different ones to find out which ones work best, more photos below of the kind of thing that I am thinking we will make, the only difference being that we will be using Little Woollies sewing machines to sew the edging on, as I believe we will get a better finish.

Let me know what you think, and reserve your space !

We only take small groups so you will get lots of attention and help and each course only costs £65.00 for the 3 sessions.

You will go from being a complete beginner and learn how to:

  • start off/working into a chain
  • perform all the basic stitches
  • work in straight rows
  • work in the round and make granny squares
  • and finally how to crochet granny squares together and how to construct a gorgeous cushion or blanket

Pattern Cutting Class - Saturday 24th February 10am - 4pm

Fed up with clothes that don’t fit?

Can't find clothes that you

like ?

Then this is the course for you, we introduce you to drafting patterns from your own measurements.

Suitable for people with some knowledge of sewing and garment construction. You will possibly have been on one or more of our dressmaking courses, and are ready to take your dressmaking skills to the next level.

You will learn how and where to take accurate measurements from on your body and how to use these to draft a close fitting sleeveless bodice block.

This is the basis for fitted tops and the bodices of dresses. Once the block is drafted you will be shown how to: manipulate darts, add style lines and fullness (eg pleats and gathers), seam allowances and hems, in order to design your own top.

You will be given detailed written instructions to take away with you so you can create new blocks for other people.

There will be no sewing on this course. All equipment and paper will be provided, but you may wish to bring along a notebook and pen.

Crochet Wattle Stitch - what's not to like ?

Wattle Stitch

This is a superb stitch to work with, very simple so you don't have to keep referring back to the pattern.

I have seen it used for all sorts of things, I have made a super long and super chunky tassled scarf.

I also think it would make a really cool cushion cover, if you made it on a smaller hook, for a denser texture.

Anyway here is how you do it

The stitch works in multiples of 3, so make a chain as long as you require and make sure the total number of chains is divisible by 3.

Row 1
skip 2 chains, in 3rd chain from the hook, 1dc,1ch and 1 tr all in the same chain, *sk 2, (1dc, 1ch, 1tr) in 3rd chain. Repeat to the end of the chain. Turn.

Row 2
Ch1, in the chain 1 space between your tr and your dc, (1dc, 1ch, 1dc) into the ch1 space. Place (1dc,1ch, 1tr) in each ch1 space along the row. In the last st place 1 dc. Turn.

Now all you have to do is repeat row 2 until you reach your desired size.

For my scarf I used 4 x balls of super chunky and a 12mm hook, made a chain of 18 and just kept going, my scarf is long (not quite Dr Who), it measures 2.5m  I then made 5 tassles on each end and it looks fab.
