After an amazing week in the Haute Alps we have moved onto the beautiful Lac St Croix in the Vars region, S.E. France, as you can see twinned with my beloved S.E. London.
The skies have been blue and the lake azure, but the water temperature is freezing, here's a pic of Baht (the wonder whippet) contemplating a dip, tbh he has been in the lake most days but refuses to swim; he has watched enviously as dogs on lilo's, dogs in boats and even a dog on a SUP board have passed by, but thigh deep is his limit.
The pebbly beach has been a godsend in some ways, as no sand in your sarnies nor on my crochet, and boy have I been crocheting like a demon. look out for a smorgasbord of projects coming soon. Although sunbathing on a pebbly beach does have it's challenges, I dream of a lafuma beach chair instead of our old beach blanket purchased from Camden market many moons ago.
This area is just so unspoilt, nestled in little coves are the most picturesque villages, but no built up areas whatsoever, our nearest town is Bauduen and it is just so pretty, typically Provencal in style and each house sandstone in colour with 'comma' blue shutters - I feel like I'm in a trailer for 'a year in Provence'.
Meals out have been quite rare as we tend to cook at the campsite, but this restaurant was frequented twice as the food and the setting over the lake watching the sun set was just amazing. They even brought Baht a water bowl and a couple of treats which goes down well in my book. I can't remember what we were laughing at, and it was probably after a couple of glasses of rose, but something made us all giggle. Happy Days. We move on again tomorrow, travelling back 'up north' to Lake Annecy where we will meet up with my lovely friend Jools and her family inc, her mum Sandra (our amazing knitting teacher) for a few days before heading home - back in to the land of Little Woollie, can't wait !
